United We StandBy David Beck-Brown With a national election fast approaching, most Americans have been preoccupied with Social Media arguments about the presidential race or Tweets about the Supreme Court. I, however, prefer to debate with pen on paper in the same manner and spirit of our founding fathers. Why? This election year we are in danger of losing the Second Amendment.
During the 20th Century, based upon these statistics, 56 million human beings were exterminated as a result of gun control. Americans need to be aware of how close we are to being on the list. At the London Olympics, while Gabby Douglas and Ali Raisman were winning gymnastics gold, fellow American Karen Rohde earned her gold medal in shotgun. Rohde set an Olympic record by not missing one target. How many Americans are aware shooting events are part of the Olympics or that a Cuban has won men’s pistol for the 5th consecutive year? Not many. The sport is dominated by China, Korea, Vietnam, Germany and several ex-Soviet block nations. Is it a coincidence these are the same countries listed above? Or is it chilling? We should at least agree it’s embarrassing. With guns we are citizens, without them we are subjects. Isn’t freedom from persecution under a king the reason we crossed the pond? As voters, you will decide. If the purpose of fighting is victory, there is no possible victory in defense. The sword is mightier than the shield, but strategy is mightier than both. When the victor prevails with his mind, weaponry is all but a ruse.
